AKA - using a toy voice sampler to explore the frequency ratios between/among third, fourths, and fifths. Would do this several more times, in future efforts (toy was a Yamaha VSS-30, then a new thing), and often incorporate the idea into more detailed pieces .
This particular toy keyboard belonged to a fellow soldier/friend of Steve Miller's. I was visiting Steve and his wife Christy, in Augusta, Georgia, at the time. I'm guessing mid-1987.
One afternoon Steve brought this Yamaha keyboard/toy home from work. Evidently his army pal had bought the thing at the PX, brought it into work, and Steve somehow talked the guy into lending his new toy to Steve. Steve was a phenomenal talker.
In 1988 I'd end up buying my own VSS-30, which became a major part of the 7 a.m. Records "studio." I still have it, still use it.
